TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
Tarangire National Park popularly known as the park of elephants and baobobs, is located only 114 km of a good tarmac road from Arusha. The Tarangire River, from which the park derives its name, irresistibly lures herds of plain migrant to its permanent waters during the dry season and passes through the area. Between July and November the park hosts herds of thousands of wildebeests, and zebras, coming from all over the Maasai stoppe and from as far north as the shores of Lake Natron. Elephants, buffalos, hartebeests, elands, lions, leopards, hyenas, cheetah, cheetah and many others species live in the park throughout the year but are more numerous during the dry season. Tarangire is the only park where you are assured of seeing the fringed eared Oryx.
